Question of the Day: Using some of the resources below, respond to the following prompt:In a perfect world, what and how would you change the educational system in our country? You may want to research some of these questins to help you in your response. What is the purpose of your education? Do schools need more money per pupil? Should standardized testing be the only way to measure a school? a district? or a student? Should No Child Left Behind be renewed by the federal government?

First of all we don't live in a perfect world and will this world ever become near perfect? Overlooking on what we are going through today; I say we are far from perfect. We can achieve more if we do the right things, and it takes time and patience. One of the things we can look at is our education system. Education is definitely important if you want to succeed in this society, and we have to look out for the future generation. It will just get tougher and tougher, and it may not be on top of everyone's priority list but it should be because it is something we are fortunate to have and no one should take it away from us. Things need to take action if we want to progress in our country because education is something that can change the future by a long shot.

So, in my opinion I say the government should be focusing more on the children's education and becoming stricter. Do something to get the children involved because the more they are involved the less trouble there will be. Children with a good education will most likely progress better, and they will have a better future. They have the opportunity and need to take advantage of it because it will help them achieve what they need in order to succeed in their careers. The teachers and schooling helps them develop their talents and intellect. Don't give up, even if you failed once or twice. The ones who became the most successful have had the most failures. Just learn for your mistakes, and set goals for yourself. Some may think standardized testing is the only way to measure a school or district, but i think there are different ways also. Children have different ways of learn for instants some may learn by playing games related to what they are learning or some may do better by studying out of a book. The teachers should find ways to help the children succeed, but then again they can't make things easy for them.

Using specific evidence to support your arguments, are you for or against Arizona SB 1070?

Acknowledging what we talked about in class, Arizona SB 1070 has brought up plenty of conflicts. Many people are considering to send 12 million illegal immigrants home and if the federal government won't act on this the states will. They haven't thought about how much it may cost us to send all of the immigrants back home. Money is a huge factor and Arizona has paid $2.7 billion in 2009 to help the immigrants out. Another problem id that the new law is unconstitutional and immoral; it requires racial profiling. There are certain times where reasonable suspicion can be done without racial characteristics.

Boycotts from Mexico are occurring and this Arizona immigration law is ruining some businesses. Stores have been closing early because the main people keeping them open was the Mexicans. Because of these boycotts they will be loosing $90 million during the next 5 years in the hotel and convention center business. With all of problems taken into thought i am against the Arizona SB 1070. Other point of views we need to look at are that the illegal immigrants are the ones who take the low paying jobs trying to support their families, also i think it's impossible to send 12 million immigrants home. They need to be focusing on making their borders stronger first before trying to enforce this law.

Per our conversation at the end of class today, I want you to have a conversation with someone (parent, sibling, relative, friend, or peer). After you have your conversation, write a reaction to your conversation.

The person I chose to have a conversation about the war in Afghanistan was my father. He thinks we shouldn't have been there in the first place because their purpose was to go and find Osama Bin Laden. Also, to drive out the Taliban because they are ones protecting him. Somewhat i agree with this because we did go into this because of 9/11 but then again we need to ensure the protection to Afghan people and our people. Another topic we brought up was the United Nations, and how they were sent the first year to keep peace in the country. Now 8 years later the United States have more troops there than ever.

The topic I fully agree with my dad is that we should have gotten out and let the international united nations stabilize the country. We both think it isn't our responsibility, and that this is something we shouldn't be dealing with. There are more important matters to focus on, for example, Afghanistan is supplying 90% of the world's heroin. We should be trying to reduce their production as long as were there. Not only is it the heroin problem but also, the war is costing too much and it is putting us deeper in debt. My father and I think alike, and we didn't disagree on much.

In your opinion, what is the most important economical issue facing the United States right now?

The most important economical issue facing the United States right now would be the $13.2 trillion national debt. It's presented bt the Untied States Treasury as "Debt held by the Public" and "Gross Debt". Yesterday July 5, 2010, the Total Public Debt was about 90.3% of GPD. The surplus refers to the casg difference between government receipts and spending. Gross debt rises and lowers as a result of this united budget deficit. It has increased over $500 billion each year since FY(fiscal year) in 2003.

This is all because of the choices we are making, and the government should have stopped this before it worsened. I believe it's too late now, I don't think we will be able to get out of this crisis. The government will be cutting back on many government services and programs. The more we spend the more we go into debt. The national debt crisis isn't based on one person or a few people, but it requires a large organized and cooperative effort. If we work together they are hoping it will help lower this national debt.
